Torque Docker Agent

How to install Torque Agent on a VM

Torque agent can be hosted in various ways, one of them on a VM/EC2 with a docker host installed.

Requirements

  • VM (this guide will walk you through how to configure torque agent on ubuntu, but you can use any environment as long as it supports docker)
  • docker
  • docker-compose
  • wget
  • unzip

What if my VM is barebone?

Great question! Follow these steps to get your VM all set up.

  1. Install docker
# Add Docker's official GPG key:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install ca-certificates curl
sudo install -m 0755 -d /etc/apt/keyrings
sudo curl -fsSL https://download.docker.com/linux/ubuntu/gpg -o /etc/apt/keyrings/docker.asc
sudo chmod a+r /etc/apt/keyrings/docker.asc

# Add the repository to Apt sources:
echo \
"deb [arch=$(dpkg --print-architecture) signed-by=/etc/apt/keyrings/docker.asc] https://download.docker.com/linux/ubuntu \
$(. /etc/os-release && echo "$VERSION_CODENAME") stable" | \
sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/docker.list > /dev/null
sudo apt-get update

# install docker and docker compose
sudo apt-get install docker-ce docker-ce-cli containerd.io docker-buildx-plugin docker-compose-plugin
  1. Create an executable to use docker compose as docker-compose
cat << 'EOF' | sudo tee /usr/local/bin/docker-compose
#!/bin/bash
docker compose "$@"
EOF

# make it executable
sudo chmod +x /usr/local/bin/docker-compose
  1. Install wget and unzip
sudo apt-get install wget unzip
